Techiman Central Market to Undergo Major Expansion and Rehabilitation Works, Announces Regional Minister

Techiman: Mr. Francis Owusu Antwi, the Bono East Regional Minister, has announced that the Techiman Central Market is set to undergo significant expansion and rehabilitation as part of the government's 24-hour economy program. The initiative aims to enhance business operations and stimulate socio-economic growth, creating numerous job opportunities for local residents.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Antwi, during an interview at the central market, highlighted the market's role as a bustling hub that attracts traders from neighboring countries such as Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, and Ivory Coast. He emphasized that the planned facelift would draw further investment, thereby strengthening the local economy.

Mr. Antwi elaborated on the project's scope, which includes the construction of modern market facilities, standard access roads, lorry terminals, and washrooms to boost revenue generation. He also mentioned advanced plans for the reconstruction of the Techiman-Sunyani highway, a crucial transit route for goods and services.

Furthermore, the minister revealed ongoing discussions with local chiefs and residents to secure land for a regional airport, a development poised to enhance tourism. Additionally, a contract has been awarded for a ring road designed for heavy-duty trucks under the 'Big Push' road infrastructure program, with construction expected to commence shortly.

In terms of educational infrastructure, Mr. Antwi announced plans to construct a two-storey classroom block and a 2,000-seat dining hall for Krobo Senior High School.

In another interview, Nana Owusu Gyare II, Akwamuhene and Acting President of the Techiman Traditional Council, appealed for the upgrading of inner-city roads and urged swift action on the ring road construction to alleviate traffic congestion caused by heavy-duty trucks in the Techiman Central Business District.
