Tunisian Ons Jabeur (21st world ranking), will face the world number 16, the Belgian Elise Mertens, in the third round of the US Open.
Mertens eliminated Greek Valentini Grammatikopoulou (234th) by two sets to nil (6-2, 62.) Wednesday in New York.
Jabeur, seeded No. 20, had earlier defeated Colombia’s Maria Camila Osorio Serrano (86th), 6-0, 6-1.
