Accra: The Teachers and Educational Workers’ Union of the Trade Union Congress, Ghana (TEWU-TUC), has accused TEWU-GH of attempting to create confusion among Junior Staff at public and Technical Universities. The union claims that TEWU-GH aims to mislead workers amid ongoing efforts to improve working conditions.
According to Ghana News Agency, TEWU-TUC leadership has labeled TEWU-GH as a breakaway group lacking legal mandate, bargaining power, and moral authority to represent its members. This assertion was made in a statement by King James Azortibah, the General Secretary of TEWU-TUC.
The statement emphasized that for over 65 years, TEWU of TUC has been the sole recognized union for Junior Staff in all Public and Technical Universities, as acknowledged by the Labour Act, 2003 (Act 651), and the National Labour Commission. It further stated that the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) has engaged only with TEWU of TUC-Ghana, excluding the Technical University Workers Association of Ghana and other factions.
TEWU-TUC urged Junior Staff in these institutions to support the ongoing strike action and disregard any statements from TEWU-GH, TUWAG, or other groups. The statement highlighted the importance of unity and solidarity in achieving the union’s aims of improved welfare and dignity for its members.
