Third anniversary of Constitution ignored … “there is not enough time to prepare this anniversary celebration”, says Mohamed Ennaceur

Today, January 27, 2017 is the date of the 3rd anniversary of the promulgation of the second Constitution after independence. This anniversary date was ignored.

Speaker of the House of People’s Representatives (HPR), Mohamed Ennaceur said that “there is not enough time to prepare for this anniversary celebration”.

He added that “an extraordinary plenary session was envisaged to which the President of the Republic, the Prime Minister, former presidents of the Republic and the founding members will be invited, but there was no much time to prepare this event “.

In a statement, Tounes Al-Irada said it regretted the laxity of the House of People’s Representatives in celebrating the 3rd anniversary of the Constitution.

In this connection, it denounced the futile pretexts given by the speaker of Parliament, saying he “underestimates the significance of this event and the value of this historic document”.

“The non-celebration of this anniversary date has as objective to hide the defects of the State which has not succeeded so far to implement several provisions of the Constitution”, member of the National Constituent Assembly (NCA) and leader in Machrou Tounes Movement, Chokri YaAche said for his part.

“Three years after the promulgation of the Constitution, Tunisia has not yet implemented the provisions of this law, nor established its institutions,” deplored Popular Front MP Aymen Aloui.

According to him, “the leaders of Tunisia do not celebrate the Constitution because their personal interests and political ambitions go beyond the will to build a social democratic Republic”.

Aloui considered it essential to put pressure on the parliament, the government and the opposition to accelerate the establishment of constitutional institutions and the application of the provisions of the Constitution.

As for MP of the Ennahdha Movement, Sahbi Atig, he accused some parties of being behind the non-celebration of the anniversary of the promulgation of the Constitution of January 27, 2014. “These parties do not want to give the new Constitution the place it deserves, “he said.

“The shining of the Tunisian Constitution abroad is much more important than in Tunisia,” said Hela Hammi, MP from the same party, who regretted that this anniversary date is not celebrated.
