Third Tunisian National Book Fair named “Hichem Djaït Edition”

More than 65 publishers will participate in the 3rd edition of the Tunisian National Book Fair named “Hichem Djaït Edition Edition”, in memory of the late thinker and historian (December 6, 1935 – June 1, 2021) .

This edition scheduled for June 17 to 27, 2021, at the City of Culture, will pay tribute to the work of this great intellectual and prominent figure of the cultural and academic scene in Tunisia who passed away on Tuesday, June 1, 2021, at the age of 86 years.

In this edition, the Governorate of Sfax will be honoured with tribute to be paid to various local creators.

At a press briefing held at the City of Culture Friday, Mohamed El May President of the National Book Fair of Tunisia announced a varied programme on various themes related to the book and publishing in Tunisia. A cultural programme for children is also planned, including workshops and shows.

For the first time, the audiobook will be present at this fair which pays tribute to the work of Ali Douagi “Sahirat minho allayli”. One of the short stories (Kanz Al fokaraa) has been chosen to be read by the actor Raouf Ben Amor. There will also be a presentation of “The Encyclopaedia of Islam” published at the initiative of the Translation Institute of Tunis.

Lectures, poetry readings, tributes and testimonies are on the agenda of this annual meeting of Tunisian writers and publishers. The theatre and the novel will be at the heart of the Fair.

Days on various themes are planned around the Tunisian historian, the artbook, copyright, publishing contracts in addition to a tribute to certain publishers.

The Fair is organised by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and the National Institution for the Promotion of Festivals and Cultural and Artistic Events. It is held in partnership with the Union of Tunisian Publishers of which it is the initiator.

The dissemination, sale and promotion of Tunisian books are at the heart of this national event, which was created in 2018.

Initially scheduled for the end of 2020, this third edition had been postponed due to the health situation caused by the pandemic of COVID-19.
