Three illegal immigration attempts thwarted in Bizerte, Medenine

Three illegal emigration attempts off Medenine and Bizerte coasts were thwarted and 38 people arrested by the Coast Guard, the Interior Ministry said in a press release Thursday.

Coast guards in Bizerte intercepted Thursday a fishing boat off Ras Jebel with 14 illegal immigrants on board from El Alia, reads the press releases. An amount in foreign currency in the possession of the illegal crossers, aged 17 to 35, was seized.

In Djerba (Medenine), coast guards Wednesday foiled two illegal immigration attempts. Twenty-four people, aged 18 to 33, were apprehended.

Three boats, quantities of fuel and an amount in foreign currency were seized in this operation, the same source indicated.
