Keta: Togbui Akamu V of Anlo-Afiadenyigba, in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region, has called on stakeholders, institutions, philanthropists, and the government to urgently support the promotion of youth activities through sports. He believes that such efforts would enable many scouts in various sporting events to identify, unearth, and nurture talent for the progress of the area.
According to Ghana News Agency, Togbui Akamu made the call during an interview following the first edition of the Nuworza Easter Cycling Competition, organized and spearheaded by the Anloga-based Hogbe Radio. He encouraged the public to unite in efforts to develop potential among the youth. “I am very happy our youths are gradually understanding the importance of other sports apart from football; we need to help them develop and improve,” he stated.
He emphasized that the youth are future leaders and stressed the importance for all stakeholders to prioritize developmental sporting events, including cycling, Footvolley, athletics, and beach volleyball. These activities could promote healthy living and have a positive impact on the communities. Togbui Akamu also commended Mr. Kafui Agbleze, the Volta Regional National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communication Officer, security agencies, and others for their support in organizing a successful cycling competition that allowed cyclists to showcase their skills and endurance.
Togbui Akamu appealed to other chiefs and stakeholders in Anlo land to collaborate on staging a significant festival celebration every Easter, aimed at championing development projects in communities in the Anlo state and beyond. He drew a parallel with the Kwahu Easter festival in the Eastern region, which brings recognition and promotes culture and tourism, suggesting that a similar festival in Volta could attract more investors.
The Nuworza Easter cycling competition featured 33 professional cyclists from across the country, covering a 61-kilometre distance from Atsiwuta in the Ketu South Municipality to Anloga. The cyclists received various awards, including cash, medals, and certificates. Participants expressed excitement over the event and thanked Togbui Akamu, Mr. Kafui Agbleze, Hogbe Radio, and others for organizing a successful event that inspired passion and enthusiasm among the youth. Many residents are optimistic that future editions will be even more exciting, attracting more sponsors and supporters to promote sports in the region.
