Weta: Torgbuiga Akpo Ashiakpor VI, the Paramount Chief and Overlord of Weta Traditional Area, has called on the public to support local farm produce from the Ketu North Municipality in the Volta Region in an effort to enhance productivity and create job opportunities. Speaking at this year's Weta homecoming and rice festival, Torgbuiga Ashiakpor emphasized the potential of local products such as rice, cassava, and maize, which are organically produced in the area, to contribute to regional development. According to Ghana News Agency, Torgbuiga Ashiakpor highlighted the multifaceted importance of festivals, which not only forge connections with ancestors but also play significant roles in historical, social, and economic contexts. He advocated for the prioritization of local products, noting that Weta's rice and other produce are free from harmful chemicals and should be consumed widely. Additionally, Torgbuiga Ashiakpor appealed to the government, particularly the Ministry of Roads and Highways, to prioriti ze infrastructure improvements in the area. Key concerns include the construction of major roads and addressing the logistical challenges of the Weta irrigation scheme, which supports the production of nutritious rice. The paramount chief also called for attention to other regional issues, such as the reconstruction of the Ehi Gari processing plant, upgrading infrastructure at Weta Senior High School, and enhancing the local market to reduce rural-urban migration. In a broader political context, Torgbuiga Ashiakpor urged politicians to conduct campaigns free of inflammatory language and emphasized the need for the Electoral Commission to ensure free, fair, and transparent elections in 2024. He expressed concerns over the diminishing credibility of political elites and called for unity and development-focused leadership. Torgbuiga Ashiakpor concluded by asserting the importance of empowering citizens and maintaining peace, particularly in the lead-up to upcoming elections, underscoring the Weta traditional council's commitment to development and unity.
