Tounes Awalan born after Nidaa Tounes deviated from path of progressive project ( Ridha Belhaj)

President of Tounes Awalan (Tunisia First) Founding Committee Ridha Belhaj said political degeneration resulting from Nidaa Tounes deviating from the path of the progressive project is behind the creation of this party.

“This new party is aimed to rebalance the political landscape” and give a new boost to democratic transition, Belhaj Monday told reporters at the official launch of Tounes Awalan. It champions a wide-ranging reform project.

The party wants to form a national front that brings together centrist political forces, the purpose being to salvage democratic transition after the withdrawal of Nidaa Tounes founders.

Tounes Awalan is not an opposition party nor it is a pro-government party, though it supports the fight against corruption.

Here is the make-up of the party:

– Boujemaa Remili: President of the National Council

– Abdelaziz Kotti: Treasurer

– Khemaies Ksila: SG in charge of communication

– Amel Jbeli: National Secretary in charge of Women and civil society

– Faouzi Maaoui: National Secretary in charge of programming and training

– Ennaceur Chouikh: President of the Political Committee

– Tarek Chaabouni: SG in charge of financing and economic programmes

– Slaheddine Ben Fraj: National Secretary in charge of studies

– Riadh Jaber: National Secretary in charge of strategic relations and internal communication

– Fakher Jbeli: National Secretary in charge of students

– Fadhel Jaziri : Member

With the creation of Tunisia Awalan, the number of political parties in Tunisia rose to 206. Ridha Belhaj is one of the founders of Nidaa Tounes in 2012, a party that saw many splits amid infighting.
