Tozeur: PM announces series of measures in several areas

Prime Minister Youssef Chahed, announced, Friday in Tozeur, a series of decisions and projects to make this region, a pilot governorate in the green economy.

Closing the enlarged regional council of the governorate of Tozeur, held in the presence of the members of the government and representatives of the regional authorities and the civil society, he considered “that the key bases of this orientation are combined and that it will be necessary to make the most of them, “referring, in this connection to “the potential of the region in renewable energy allowing it to achieve energy self-sufficiency by 2021 with solar stations in progress.”

He also announced the creation of a wastewater treatment plant in the Chbika region under the delegation of Tamaghza, the rehabilitation of working-class neighborhoods and sanitation networks in Tozeur, Nafta and Deguech and scheduling of the second phase of the photovoltaic station.

Referring to organic farming, the Prime Minister also announced the creation of 1,000 hectares of irrigated perimeters and the drilling of 20 new wells devoted to irrigation in addition to the construction of the water desalination plant in the city of Deguech and the opening of a professional group of dates.

Regarding the tourism sector, Chahed highlighted the region’s tourism assets, particularly in terms of ecotourism, indicating that consultations are underway to open an air link between Tozeur and Nice (France).

In Housing, Chahed announced the start of the construction of 9 thousand homes, and to register the district Bani Ali (Nafta) among the interventions of the Agency of Rehabilitation and Urban Renovation.

In the industry sector, he mentioned the launch of adoption measures for the redevelopment of the Kastilia-Tozeur industrial zone.

Concerning the transport sector, the Prime Minister announced the reorganisation of the stairs of the Tozeur airport and the acquisition of 9 new buses for the interurban lines during the second half of this year.

The measures announced by the Prime Minister also concerned the sports and cultural fields through the start, at the end of 2018, of the redevelopment of the athletics course and the launch of studies related to the creation of a sports training center.

Among the measures announced are also the establishment of new training courses within the Higher Institute of Technological Studies (oasis agriculture, geothermal agriculture) and the restructuring of the vocational training centre.
