Tragic Bus Accident in Kwapia Claims 13 Lives

Kwapia: A devastating accident early Monday morning in Kwapia, near Obuasi, resulted in the deaths of 13 passengers when a VIP bus veered off the road and plunged into a ditch. According to Ghana News Agency, the bus, traveling from Kumasi to Enchi in the Western North Region, not only resulted in fatalities but also left several other passengers with varying degrees of injuries. A police source in Obuasi confirmed the death toll, detailing that the victims included seven males, five females, and one child. Most of the deceased were pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver, Osei Adu, died after being transported to the hospital. Eyewitnesses reported that the bus, registered under the number ER 2445-11, was overloaded due to picking up passengers from another bus that had broken down earlier on the route. It is suggested that a dispute among passengers over the overloaded conditions may have distracted the driver, contributing to the accident. The injured are currently receiving medical attention at local facilities in Obuasi, with more severe cases transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi. Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased have been moved to a local morgue. Local police have launched an investigation to further understand the dynamics that led to this tragic incident, as the community mourns the sudden loss of life.
