Gafsa: A driver assistant of a train transporting phosphate was killed on Tuesday after the vehicle derailed in Jebel Selja, Métlaoui (governorate of Gafsa), the spokesperson for the National Company of Railways (SNCFT) Hassen MiSdi said. The victim was trapped in a train car that fell into a ravine. The train driver sustained injuries, but his condition is stable.
According to Agence Tunis Afrique Presse, the Métlaoui-bound train, which departed from Redeyef, was pulling 35 cars loaded with nearly 2,170 tonnes of phosphate. The causes of the derailment are still unknown pending the findings of an investigation initiated into its circumstances, Hassen MiSdi added.
