Washington: US President Donald Trump sharply criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin for what he described as "meaningless" discussions on ending the conflict in Ukraine, following his authorization of new defensive weapons shipments to the nation.
According to Ghana News Agency, during a White House address, Trump expressed his frustration with Putin's approach, stating, "We get a lot of bullshit thrown at us by Putin. He's very nice all the time, but it turns out to be meaningless." Trump further criticized Putin's treatment of people, condemning the violence and loss of life as he justified the decision to enhance US military aid to Ukraine.
The Department of Defense, on Monday, revealed that the Trump administration had decided to reverse its previous stance and would send additional defensive weapons to Kiev upon the president's directive. This decision comes after the temporary halt in the delivery of certain promised military assets, including anti-aircraft systems, intended to support Ukraine's defense efforts against the ongoing Russian military aggression.
For over three years, Ukraine has been engaged in defending against a Russian invasion, aided by Western support. While the US has attempted to negotiate a 30-day ceasefire, the effort has been stymied by Putin's imposition of several preconditions, despite Kiev's agreement to the proposal.
Recently, Russia has intensified its military campaign, aiming to overpower Ukrainian air defenses with a barrage of missile and drone strikes. Throughout his election campaign, Trump has often emphasized his rapport with Putin and claimed he could bring an end to Russia's unwarranted invasion within a day.
