Trump Expresses Concern Over Ebola Outbreak as American Infected

Washington: US President Donald Trump expressed his concern on Monday over the recent Ebola outbreak, following confirmation from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that an American has contracted the virus.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Trump administration has initiated an interagency response to address the viral outbreak. Heidi Overton, a senior White House official for domestic policy, stated that one American, showing symptoms after exposure to the Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus, is being transported to Germany for treatment. The region is recognized internationally for viral hemorrhagic fever treatments.

Serge, a missionary group, identified the infected individual as Dr. Peter Stafford, an American medical missionary who contracted the virus while treating patients at a local hospital. To prevent further spread, entry restrictions have been put in place for non-American citizens who recently visited Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Congo, and South Sudan.

The World Health Organization declared the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda a public health emergency of international concern, with at least 80 suspected deaths reported recently. Health officials noted that the outbreak involves the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola, which currently has no approved vaccines or specific treatments.

The Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is working with regional authorities and international partners to contain the outbreak and minimize the risk of cross-border transmission.
