Tunis Office of International Federation of African Women introduced

The Tunis office representing the International Federation of African Women (IFAW) aims to consolidate women’s activities and raise awareness about the importance of their role in the development process, said office president Ahlem Arfaoui at a press conference Thursday.

Arfaoui pointed out that the Tunis office is endeavouring to establish relations with the various national organisations and associations that are working on women’s affairs in different fields.

The Tunis office has 15 female committee chairpersons, an office chairperson and 8 regional offices, with the objective of opening other offices to cover different areas later.

Local offices will soon be opened in support of decentralisation and will succeed in bringing women closer to different categories within the country.

Taking the floor, National Union of Tunisian Women (UNFT) President Radhia Jeribi pointed out that the union will offer the necessary help to this newborn to support its actions. Among the challenges faced by both Tunisian women and African women are fight against violence, poverty and illiteracy.

For her part, Tunisia office secretary-general Karima Battikh presented the activities to be launched by the office, particularly in fight against illiteracy among women, achieving independence and consolidating their role in the family nucleus.
