Tunis will play host to the 3rd edition of Startup Gate Summit 2021on July 5-6, with focus on Libya through the theme: “Empowering partnership and complementarity between entrepreneurs and start-ups in Tunisia and Libya.”
This edition will be held in times when Tunisian-Libyan relations are going through a new impetus and an accelerated pace to renew the economic cooperation between the two countries.
About 1,000 start-ups from Africa and the Middle East, nearly 50 capital ventures and 50 business incubators and accelerators in Tunisia and Libya are expected to attend the event.
Prime Minister Hichem Mehcichi signed with his Libyan counterpart Abdelhamid Debiba in May 2021, during his visit to Tripoli, an agreement to facilitate trade and the movement of people between the two countries and also reactivate agreements in the sea and land transport fields.
“This edition will be dedicated to the Libyan market and will seek to implement partnerships between entrepreneurs, start-ups and VSEs and SMEs in Tunisia and Libya,” director of the summit’s organising committee Malek Channoufi stated to TAP.
Channoufi added that the event seek to reinforce complementarity and establish partnerships between the two countries to serve sustainable development and shared interests.
She pointed out that the event also aims to step up the pace of opportunity creation, networking and market integration for young creators in the region.
It also seeks to help Libyan start-ups to develop in the local market and to assist them in terms of legislation.
In May 2021, 10 start-ups and innovative Tunisian enterprises had signed in Tripoli a partnership charter for the creation of a grouping of economic services whose objective is to export to the Libyan market, services and goods with high added value.
The goals of this Libyan edition according to the Summit’s website are:
-Create an economic dynamic in the region based on innovation and knowledge.
-Ensure the sustainable development of society through the support of the innovative project holders aimed to devellop local economic .(Achieve SDGs Goals)
-Create matching and market integration opportunities for talented youth in the region.
-Accelerate the development of promising Startups and SMEs.
-Help Libyan Startups to develop locally in order to stimulate their regional economy
-Put in place legal reforms facilitating economic exchanges based on emerging technologies and the knowledge economy between the two countries
