Foreign Minister Khemaies Jhinaoui said on Friday that “Tunisia aims to receive 20,000 African students in all specialties by 2020, with a view to becoming a regional hub for education and training.

Speaking at a reception organised at the ministry’s headquarters in honour of the first promotion of sub-Saharan medical cardiologists who began training on February 19 at the Faculty of Medicine of Sousse, the minister said that the total number African students pursuing their studies in Tunisian public and private university institutions now exceed 7,000 students, not to mention the number of enrollments in vocational training centres.

“Efforts will be doubled to improve the quality of services provided to these students,” he said, indicating that the goal is to be part of South-South cooperation approach that takes into account the real needs of African countries.

“Our cooperation with African countries is not limited to the health and higher education sectors but extends to all areas of common interest,” he added, noting in this context that Tunisia will host from 10 to 12 April the third session of the Friendship and Partnership Days with Africa.

The programme of this event includes several events namely the International Exhibition of Information Technologies and Communication “STIC Africa 2018”.

The reception was attended by Ministers of Health and Higher Education, as well as African ambassadors and and deputies.
