Tunisia and IMF complete technical discussions (Finance Minister)

The technical discussions between a delegation of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and technical teams from all ministerial departments initiated on February 14 were completed on February 22, Minister of Finance Sihem Namsia said Wednesday.

Speaking on the sidelines of the launching ceremony of the Development Capital Fund dedicated to innovative SMEs, INNOVATECH, she added that these discussions have focused on all the components that will be included in the final document to be concluded with the IMF.

These discussions have been effective and helped answer all the questions and details requested by the IMF, she noted.

While recalling that these are technical discussions that precede the formal negotiations which are expected to be launched in the coming weeks, the minister said the discussions were conducted with great transparency, frankness and realism and showed the commitment of the current government.

Namsia also announced that an IMF delegation will visit Tunisia in March 2022 to agree on a date for the launch of negotiations.

She stressed that the first draft discussed with the IMF has been submitted to social organisations, stating that the government has received remarks from the employers’ organisaion (UTICA), and that positive contacts have also been established with UGTT with which meetings are planned in the coming period.

The minister concluded that the current indicators are positive, expressing hope to reach an agreement with the IMF.
