Cairo: Tunisia has taken on the Chairmanship of the Council of the League of Arab States at the Ministerial Level, with Mr. Mohamed Ali Nafti, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad, presiding over the 166th Session. This development marks a significant responsibility for Tunisia at a time of considerable challenges for the Arab region. According to African Press Organization, during his opening remarks, Minister Nafti outlined the pressing issues facing the Arab world. He emphasized that Tunisia's leadership role comes at a crucial moment and is committed to fostering Arab solidarity, resolving disputes, unifying stances, and enhancing joint Arab efforts for greater impact. He asserted that regional security and stability hinge upon the Palestinian people regaining their full rights, reaffirming Tunisia's unwavering support for the Palestinian cause under President Kaïs Saïed's guidance. Minister Nafti also condemned recent attacks on Syrian and Lebanese territories, expressing solidar ity with these nations and advocating for their sovereignty and territorial integrity. He reiterated Tunisia's commitment to a Libyan-led resolution to maintain Libya's unity, and expressed solidarity with Sudan and Yemen amidst their ongoing struggles. The Minister supported initiatives to address the crises in these countries, aiming for security, stability, and development. In addition, Minister Nafti expressed full solidarity with several Gulf countries, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, and others, against violations of their sovereignty. He emphasized Tunisia's rejection of aggression, advocating for good-neighbourliness, respect for sovereignty, and non-interference in internal affairs to ensure regional security and stability. The Minister called for increased collaboration among Arab states to tackle security challenges, suggesting the development of monitoring and early-warning systems to avert crises efficiently. He highlighted the need for commitment to Arab resolutions and strategies, pro posing mechanisms to convert them into actionable programs that align with Arab peoples' aspirations. On development matters, Minister Nafti noted Tunisia's proactive role in Arab strategies and projects, mentioning the Arab High-Level Preparatory Meeting for the Second World Summit for Social Development hosted by Tunisia in late 2025. He also mentioned Tunisia's recognition with the Arab Government Excellence Award for its educational innovations. Highlighting Tunisia's selection as the Arab Tourism Capital for 2027, the Minister saw this as a testament to Tunisia's cultural heritage and potential for tourism and cultural collaboration within the Arab world. He concluded by affirming Tunisia's commitment to active participation with the League of Arab States, aiming to bolster the League's capacity to address challenges and serve Arab interests. Arab delegations at the meeting expressed their gratitude for Tunisia's efforts and confidence in its Chairmanship, hoping it would foster dialogue, bridge divid es, and strengthen Arab unity. On the meeting's sidelines, Minister Nafti engaged with various Arab counterparts to discuss bilateral relations and cooperation strategies, preparing for future collaborations.
