Tunisia attends meeting of Arab Foreign Ministers in Kuwait

Tunisia attended the meeting of Arab Foreign Ministers held Sunday in Kuwait, in the presence of the Arab league Secretary General.

The meeting is part of periodical meetings of consultation, initially scheduled in February 2021 by the Arab League Ministerial Council.

Arab FMs discussed key regional and Arab issues, mainly the Palestinian cause and the state of affairs in Lebanon, Libya, Syria and Yemen.

The meeting offered the opportunity to exchange points of view on the development of the Arab joint action, notably as regards the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Foreign Minister Othman Jerandi reminded of Tunisia’s endeavours to serve Arab interests during its term as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.

He reiterated Tunisia’s constant position on the just Palestinian cause and called for intensifying joint action to further support the Palestinian people’s legitimate claims.

Tunisia is fully supportive of the political process underway in Libya in such a way as to restore security and guarantee stability in the country, the whole region and neighbouring countries, in particular.

Jerandi also strongly condemned attacks on Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates and said Tunisia firmly rejects all acts of aggression against their security and sovereignty.

Tunisia forcefully condemned threats to the stability of the region which, he said, are a flagrant violation of international law.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Jerandi had a series of talks with Arab counterparts which focused on stronger relations as well as regional and international issues of common interest.

The FM also met with Director General of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development.and the Director-General of the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development. Talks turned on ways to scale up cooperation between Tunisia and these institutions.
