Tunis:Tunisia has reaffirmed its commitment to multilateralism and the strengthening of the United Nations' role in maintaining international peace and security. The country is advocating for comprehensive reforms of the UN's structures and operational mechanisms to enhance its credibility and better tackle global challenges.

According to Agence Tunis Afrique Presse – English, Tunisia issued a statement on United Nations Day, expressing pride in its longstanding partnership with the UN. The statement commended the essential role of UN agencies, funds, and specialized institutions in Tunisia, particularly their contributions to the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework for 2027-2031.

Tunisia emphasized the importance of aligning this framework with its National Development Plan to ensure national ownership and make UN cooperation a catalyst for overall development objectives. The statement also paid tribute to the UN's efforts over the past eight decades in preventing conflicts, managing crises, promoting disarmament, and protecting human rights.

The statement underscored the UN's role in coordinating international responses to challenges such as poverty, organized crime, epidemics, development efforts, climate action, child protection, and the empowerment of women and youth. Tunisia called on all states to reaffirm their commitment to international solidarity and uphold collective security and shared destiny principles.

Tunisia stressed that restoring confidence in the UN requires a sincere commitment to international law and a comprehensive reform of the organization’s structures. This approach, Tunisia believes, is essential for the UN to remain a pillar of international legality and a refuge for peoples.

The statement recalled the foundational principles of the UN Charter, highlighting its commitment to peace, security, and equitable development.
