Tunis: Tunisia urged the international community to "shoulder its responsibilities" in the face of "systematic violations" of international law by the Zionist occupation forces. States need to "take concrete measures" to advance international justice and put an end to "financial, political and military support" of occupation policies, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad Mohamed Ali Nafti said on Saturday. According to Agence Tunis Afrique Presse, Nafti was speaking at a ceremony organized with Palestine's embassy and the UN office, in observance of International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. The FM welcomed the "immediate and responsible response" of the international community "to face up to desperate attempts to liquidate the Palestinian cause." He also called for foiling forced displacement plans and respecting "the sovereignty of Palestine." Palestine, Nafti said, is recognized by nearly 160 countries and it is time for it to gain full UN membership. In this vein , he invited the Security Council members to seek the adoption of a resolution to this end, in line with the extended rights already granted to Palestine as an observer state. Tunisia will keep on supporting "firmly and unconditionally" the Palestinian people's right to establish an independent state with eastern Al-Quds as capital, the FM further said. "The future of Gaza is indissociable from Palestine and its independent state's," said Ambassador of Palestine in Tunis Rami Qaddoumi. "Practical measures" are called for so that the Palestinian state can fully exercise effective authority. This in addition to lifting the Zionist entity's financial blockade estimated at $3.7 billion, the diplomat added. Qaddoumi said he hopes global support for the Palestinian people will continue until a Palestinian state is established within the 1967 borders. The protection of the Palestinian state, he said, requires "political, economic and legal support."
