Tunisia calls for providing necessary protection for Palestinian people

Tunisia, on Tuesday, called for providing necessary protection for the Palestinian people.

This was during the meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Turkey.

In his remarks, State Secretary for Foreign Affairs Sabri Bachtobji urged the international community, the acting parties and the Security Council to provide the necessary protection for the Palestinians and to compel Israel to respect international law, to put an end to its practices and to give priority to the path of peace.

The Secretary of State reaffirmed Tunisia’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people and their just cause and its adherence to all international efforts aimed at achieving lasting peace in the region on the basis of international resolutions and Arab peace initiatives.

Representatives from 45 countries took part in the meeting of the Foreign Ministers of OIC Member States.

The meeting will discuss the latest developments in the city of Al Quds Al-Sharif over the last two days, after the Israeli occupation closed Al Aqsa mosque to the worshippers and installed electronic gates to reinforce the blockade.

The OIC had indicated in a statement that the meeting would focus on ways to support the Al-Mourabitoun (Guardians of Islamic holy places), help them preserve their identity and protect the Muslim holy places.
