Tunisia, Canada ink agreement to develop women leadership

An agreement to reinforce women’s capacities and to develop their leadership was inked on Friday in Tunis between Ministry of Women, Family and Children and Canada’s Forum of Federations organisation.

The document was inked by Minster of Women, Family and Children Neziha Laabidi and President and CEO of the Forum of Federations Rupak Chattopadhyay.

By virtue of this agreement the Canadian side endeavours to enhance women’s capacities so as to help them reach decision-making posts in the political, cultural, social, administrative and local governance fields.

According to the minister, the agreement will help implement common projects and achieve objectives of Empowering Women for Leadership Roles in the MENA Region project currently conducted in Tunisia, Jordan and Morocco.

In turn, Chattopadhyay said that Tunisia is one of partner countries most open to this kind of training. Tunisia’s experience will be beneficial for other partners operating in this field, he added.

Canada’s Ambassador to Tunisia Carole MacQueen highlighted for her part the importance to help women further access decision-making positions, adding that Tunisia is a leading country in this field.
