Tunisia chairs Francophone Institute of Financial Regulation

The Financial Market Council ( FMC) was elected, on Wednesday, to the presidency of the French-speaking Institute of Financial Regulation (IFREFI), an organization for cooperation in the field of financial market regulation in the French-speaking world, for a two-year term.

The Financial Market Council ( FMC) was elected on the occasion of the 19th meeting of the IFREFI, held on September 1, 2020, the council said in a statement issued Wednesday.

According to the same source, “the attribution of the presidency of IFREFI to the FMC is a recognition of the progress made on the Tunisian financial market in recent years in terms of quality of regulation, particularly in terms of strengthening the legal and regulatory framework in accordance with international best practices.

The IFREFI is an international organisation created in 2001 at the initiative of French-speaking regulators. To date, it brings together, in addition to Tunisia, 18 regulatory authorities representing the following countries and economic areas: Algeria, Andorra, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Economic and Monetary Commission of Central Africa, France, Guinea, Lebanon, Luxembourg, Morocco, Mauritius, Moldova, Monaco, Romania, Switzerland, West African Monetary Union and Vietnam.

IFREFI’s main objective is to strengthen technical cooperation, coordination and exchange between the various regulators of French-speaking financial markets.
