Tunisia determined to root out terrorism (Horchani)

The Tunisian State is determined to fight terrorism in all its forms so as to root it out, Defence Minister Farhat Horchani affirmed.

The minister spoke on Monday during decoration ceremonies to a number of servicemen and distribution of awards to winners of different sport and cultural competitions organised on the occasion of the celebration of the 61st National Army anniversary.

Terrorism is a way of thought before being a crime, he said. It is a scourge that has affected all countries without exception that is why a comprehensive approach based on security, educational, social and development aspects and advocates an alternative religious discourse must be implemented.

The minister recalled that the military institution plays a key role in fighting terrorism in southeast border regions and mountainous regions.

The ministry, he said, is reviewing several draft laws on the improvement of servicemen’s material situation in co-ordination with the Prime Ministry’s services.

In this respect, he highlighted the importance attached by the ministry to the moral well-being of servicemen by providing different social benefits (social security, housing, health) as well as to members of their families, children of servicemen that died for their country and to servicemen injured while on duty.

A flag raising ceremony was held on Monday morning at the Kasbah square on the 61st anniversary of the National Army.

The official military ceremony was chaired by National Defence Minister Farhat Horchani, in the presence of the ministry’s staff and senior military officials as well as representatives of civilian authorities.
