Tunisia elected to membership of International Dates Council [Upd 1]

Tunisia became member of the International Dates Council, the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries said on Thursday.  It was also entrusted at a founding meeting held on February 15-16 in Al Ahsa, Saudi Arabia, with the task of representing North African countries.

 

The members of the council, which will be chaired by Saudi Arabia, are Jordan, Bahrain, Morocco, Libya, Egypt, India, Sudan, Yemen, Oman, Palestine and Tunisia.

 

The council’s action plan for the next two years was approved at the founding meeting. The freshly created body seeks to scale up cooperation between producer,  processing and exporting countries considering the importance of this segment for food security and the economy.

 

Stronger cooperation among member countries is also sought to boost the sector, strengthen production and enhance quality, in addition to increasing the level of income and the standard of living of workers and developing international trade.
