The 10th Waste-to-Resources 2023 international conference, organised for the first time in Tunisia, opened Monday in Gammarth, Tunis northern suburbs. The event is organised under the theme of “circular economy, MBT, MRF, recycling, Urban Mining and Zero Waste.” It brings together nearly 130 foreign speakers and experts in waste management. Waste-to-Resources 2023 is a leading platform for international exchange of knowledge on the recovery of materials and energy from waste, including waste treatment and recycling,” said Manager of ICP Environmental Consulting Tunisia and conference co-organiser Walim Merdassi. The International Solid Waste Association (ISWA) picked Tunisia to hold this conference on June 5-7 in a bid to share expertise and present pioneer waste management projects in Arab, French-speaking and African countries, he told TAP. Spotlight will be put on further experiences, mainly Jordan’s in composting and Tanzania in waste management, as well as Asian countries’ such as Bangladesh and India, he added. “European waste management projects will also presented,” he said. Merdassi said the conference is an opportunity for Tunisia to tap into foreign experiences in waste management solutions. Official in charge of international cooperation at the National Waste Management Agency (French: ANGED) Myriam Jenayeh said this conference will help Tunisia recover waste and investigate financing mechanisms for such projects.
