Tunisia inks convention on ATI’s access as manager of root server for Digital Object Architecture

Tunisia signed an agreement on the access of the Tunisian Internet Agency (ATI) as the manager of a root server for Digital Object Architecture (DOA), becoming thus the first African country and the 8th out of 12 countries to have put this high value-added technology into operation.

The DOA uses a federated registry system that is based on an open architecture that interoperates information systems connected to it and provides authentication of information and secure access to structured information in most types of standardised storage systems.

The agreement was signed by ATI and the American Dona Foundation. The DOA will cover all economic fields and vital sectors through a server to identify objects on the Internet.

Chairing the signing ceremony, Secretary of State for Digital Economy Habib Debbabi said it is a new system parallel to the Internet network that will help Tunisia become the first country host of the objects’ identities at the African and Arab planes, as it has a server capable of guaranteeing sufficient data protection and granting an identity to the objects through the Internet which can not be falsified.

He spoke about the Smart Tunisia project, a strategy that is being gradually acheived to raise from 65% of Internet users in Tunisia now to generalise the Internet network to the various regions of the country before the end of 2018, through the launch of a call for tenders to cover the remaining 94 delegations.

For his part, Robert Kahn, co-inventor of the Internet protocol and President of the Dona Foundation, pointed out that the option for Tunisia to ink the DOA convention is motivated by the existence of a propitious basis for the implementation of this new system and notably the availability of Tunisian competences who can manage and exploit it.

It should be pointed out that the DOA’s economic dimensions may lie in the widespread use of its application in fields such as the Internet of objects, the BigData cloud computing which will help generate very significant economic concerns in almost all sectors: education, health, agriculture, energy, public administration, industry, tourism etc.
