Tunisia is able to repay its debts, estimated at 3.5 billion dinars

Tunisia is able to honor its commitments and repay its debts, estimated at 3.5 billion dinars, said the official spokesman for the government Nasreddine Nsibi, at a press conference held Thursday at the seat of government in El Kasbah, on the occasion of the celebration of the 58th anniversary of the Agricultural Evacuation Day.

Nsibi added that the conclusion of an agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is essential to launch a programme of structural and deep reforms, which will allow Tunisia to drain revenue and additional resources, able to avoid recourse to debt.

Minister of Finance, Sihem Boughdiri Nemsia, had said Wednesday that discussions with the IMF were positive, and that Tunisia expects the official declaration by the fund, of the effective start of negotiations.

She voiced hope to conclude this agreement with the IMF, especially since the Finance Act 2022 is based, in part, on financial support from the Fund.
