Tunisia/Italy: meeting on June 15 to decide on Italian waste file (minister)

The Tunisian and Italian authorities will definitively rule on the Italian waste issue at a meeting next June 15, acting Minister of Local Affairs and the Environment, Kamel Eddoukh announced Monday.
Speaking at a plenary session dedicated to oral questions to five ministers, Eddoukh said the Italian authorities informed their Tunisian counterparts on May 21 that the Italian company which had exported Italian waste to Tunisia was no longer authorised to operate in this sector.
In his response to a question from Democratic bloc MP Noomane El Euch concerning this case, the minister noted that his department preferred to opt for a diplomatic approach to settle this case, stressing that the possibility of bringing the case to international justice is not ruled out.
He added that Tunisia has all the necessary evidence to win the case, noting that the ministry has consulted with the secretariats of the Basel and Bamako conventions, which he said have sided with Tunisia.
He pointed out that the Italian authorities have recognised that this waste must be returned to its country of origin.
