Tunis: On the instructions of President Kaïs Saïed, the Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad summoned the Ambassador of France to Tunisia to convey a strongly worded protest regarding the content of an interview recently aired by a French public television channel with an individual wanted by the Tunisian judiciary. According to Agence Tunis Afrique Presse, the interview was deemed to undermine the sovereignty of the Tunisian state, target its national security and institutions, and constitute an explicit call to sedition and internal strife. The Secretary of State expressed Tunisia's strong condemnation and deep dismay at the deliberate recurrence of such incidents on French public media platforms, which are used to disseminate inflammatory content and blatant falsehoods against the Tunisian state. He stressed that this conduct clearly exceeds the bounds guaranteed by freedom of expression, media freedom, and professional journalistic ethics, and falls withi n the scope of unacceptable interference in the internal affairs of a sovereign state committed to preserving the independence of its national decision-making. It also constitutes direct incitement against its institutions and symbols and an attempt to undermine its national security-acts that are criminalized under Tunisian legislation, international law, and diplomatic norms. The Secretary of State further emphasized that the official status of the media outlet in question entails a clear moral responsibility on the part of the French state, which cannot be disclaimed under the pretext of editorial independence or freedom of the press. He added that it is incumbent upon the French authorities to take the necessary measures, on their own initiative and in accordance with their national legislation, to put an end to such unacceptable conduct.
