TUNIS, The Association of Tunisian Magistrates (Amt) responded to the decision of Tunisian President Kais Saied to dissolve the Supreme Judicial Council by urging all members of the judiciary to strike on February 9 and 10 in tribunals across the country.
The association also announced the organization of a sit-in of protest in front of the Supreme Judicial Council and urged all magistrates, members of civil society and national personalities to participate. It also indicated that a meeting has been organized on February 12 to discuss the situation of the Tunisian judiciary and the decisions of the president of the Republic.
Different positions on Saied’s decision were instead taken by the president of the Tunisian lawyers’ guild (Onat, Brahim Bouderbala, who told local radio Shems Fm that detractors of the president, including magistrates, only have the objective of demonizing Saied, who has a lot of respect for the legal profession, he said. “He assured me of this personally”, noted Bouderbala, recalling that the lawyers’ guild was repeatedly invited by the president of the Republic for consultations.
