Tunisia officially becomes member of African Commission on Human and People’s Rights

Tunisia has been officially represented, since Wednesday, as member of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights of the African Union (AU), in the person of Hatem Sayem, former ambassador, for a 6-year term (2017-2023).

The opening of the 61st session of the Commission took place on Wednesday in the capital of The Gambia, Banjul.

A delegation from the Ministry of Relations with the Constitutional Bodies, Civil Society and Human Rights is participating in work of the Commission that will run until November 15, 2017, a statement from the Ministry said Thursday.

Tunisia was elected as a member of the AU’s African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights, at the 31st session of the AU Executive Council, held on June 30, 2017 in Addis Ababa.

Hatem Sayem served as Tunisia’s ambassador to Cairo, Beirut, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, and Tehran.

He also served as Secretary General for Africa and Director of Consular Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
