Tunisia-OIC: Jhinaoui reaffirms “Tunisia’s concern to boost bilateral co-operation”

Foreign Minister Khemaies Jhinaoui reaffirmed Tunisia’s “concern to develop co-operative relations with the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and its desire to consolidate Islamic joint common, to help the OIC to address issues of concern to the region, foster security and stability and boost co-operation among Islamic countries in all areas.”

At a meeting Monday with OIC Secretary General Yousef bin Ahmad Al-Othaimeen, who is visiting Tunisia to take part in the annual meetings of the Islamic Development Bank Group, the Minister emphasised “the need to continue efforts to fight terrorism and to protect young people against the influences of extremist currents and violence “, the Foreign Affairs Department said in a statement.

For his part, Yousef bin Ahmad Al-Othaimeen stressed “the importance of holding the 43rd meeting of the Islamic Development Bank Group in Tunis and giving greater attention to development and economic co-operation in the Islamic world.”

He announced Tunisia’s willingness to host the 11th session of the Islamic Conference of Culture Ministers in November 2019.

He also underlined the role of Tunisia “in stimulating Islamic joint action, serving the causes of the region and contributing to the success of OIC events and activities”.

The Secretary-General of the Islamic organisation also expressed his support for Tunisia’s proposal to hold a conference on investment at the end of 2018 as part of the OIC programme of action.

“We are ready to contribute to the success of the Islamic Conference of Culture Ministers and all the activities and events that will be organised in Tunis as the second capital of Islamic culture in 2019,” the statement quoted the OIC Secretary-General as saying.
