All active forces in the country are urged to meet the duty to report child labour cases, enforce law strictly and combat all forms opf economic exploitation of children, said .the Ministry of Family, Women, Children and the Elderly.
It is possible to put an end to child labour in Tunisia by means of pooling efforts to achieve social justice.
There is commitment to defend the rights of children, driven by a strong will to uphold their higher interests in line with the provisions of the Tunisian Constitution and national guidelines for laying the foundations of a socially orientated and fair state, the ministry further said in a statement on World Day Against Child Labour 2023 (June 12).
Placed this year under the theme: “Social Justice for All. End Child Labour!,” the World Day Against Child Labour is intended to increase prevention and raise awarness of regulations in force to fight child labour and better protect victims.
The ministry laid emphasis on efforts made by Tunisia to combat child labour, including the ratification of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and its annexed protocols, the publishing of the Child Protection Code and the adoption of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. This in addition to adherence to global the commitment adhering to the international community’s commitment to halt child labour by 2025.
Prohibited by law, child labour is a serious violation of human rights, the ministry added. Tunisia pledges to abide by its previous international commitments, forge ahead with the fight against child labour and protect children against economic exploitation and all hazards they may face (school dropout, ill-treatment, human trafficking, etc.)
