Tunisia requests collective and international commitment to implement clauses of Paris Agreement

Minister of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries Samir Taieb said Tunisia is working to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 41% by 2030 compared to the 2010 levels by targeting the renewable energy sectors, agriculture and forestry and waste treatment, calling for this to “an international collective commitment under the Paris agreement on climate”.

Speaking at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP23) in Bonn, Germany, from November 6 to 17, in the presence of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Taieb said Tunisia has initiated the mobilisation of means of reinforcement and support, since its approval of the Paris Agreement, through the adoption by the government of the energy policy in 2030 and the decision to create an energy transition fund.

The minister noted that developing countries, such as Tunisia, are very sensitive to the impacts of climate change, as their economies are based on natural resources, stressing that Tunisia is working to entrench effectiveness and sustainability, calling to the importance of collective commitment to the implementation of the Paris Agreement and strengthening resources for the benefit of developing countries.

The international efforts call for the control of the heat wave by two degrees worldwide by 2100 and the pursuit of efforts to reach a maximum level of not more than 1.5 degrees.
