Accra:The Tunisian government is aiming for an economic growth rate of 3.1% in 2027, up from an expected 2.7% in 2026, as detailed in the 2027 Economic Budget Report. This report, acquired by TAP news agency, was presented to the Assembly of People's Representatives and the National Council of Regions and Districts.
According to Agence Tunis Afrique Presse, the report indicates that the per capita income is projected to increase from an estimated TND 15,605.7 in 2026 to TND 16,735.9 in 2027. Furthermore, the investment-to-GDP ratio is forecasted to rise to 16.4% in 2027, with foreign direct investment expected to reach TND 4.8 billion, up from TND 4 billion in 2026. Export growth is anticipated to be 8% in 2027, while import growth is projected to slow to 7.9%, contributing to a reduced trade deficit of 3.7% of GDP.
The report also forecasts a slight decrease in inflation to 5.2% and a reduction in the unemployment rate to 14.5% by 2027. Youth unemployment is expected to fall to 35%, and unemployment among university graduates is projected to decrease to 25%.
The government revised its 2026 growth forecast down to 2.7% from an initial 3.3% due to temporary factors such as underperformance in the phosphate and energy sectors, climate change impacts, and global economic challenges. The report highlights the importance of structural reforms and adaptive policies to foster a dynamic and balanced growth trajectory. The 2027 Economic Budget Report serves as a crucial reference alongside the 2026-2030 Development Plan and the draft Finance Bill and State Budget for 2027.
