Tunisia to host Regional Meeting for Heads of Copyright Offices in Arab Countries, March 29-30

Tunisia will play host March 29-30 to the Regional Meeting for Heads of Copyright Offices in Arab Countries.

This meeting, held by the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) in co-operation with the Culture Ministry and the Tunisian Copyright Agency (OTDAV), will be attended by WIPO Deputy Director General Sylvie Forbin, Senior Adviser in the Copyright Development Division, Culture and Creative Industries Sector Ola Zahran, heads of copyright offices in Arab countries (Tunisia, Algeria, Bahrain, Comoros Islands, Djibouti, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, Qatar and Yemen) as well as representatives of the Arab League Educational Cultural and Scientific Organisation (ALECSO) and the Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU).

The meeting will offer the opportunity to examine the state of the literary and artistic property rights system in the Arab world, familiarise with the various novelties at the legal and technological levels in the world and means to make the most of experiences in this field, so as to consolidate the literary and artistic rights in the Arab region in a way that guarantees the rights of their authors and creators.

The event is expected to issue a set of recommendations that address several issues related to copyrights protection in the digital field (e-market), prospects for the development of collective management in the region, innovative solutions to facilitate access to WIPO’s educational materials and agenda in the copyright fiedd and the challenges for the region as well as co-operation and initiatives in this field at the regional level.
