Sabha:Tunisia will participate for the first time in the inaugural Fezzan Conference, scheduled to be held in Libya's Sabha from November 24-26. The Tunisia-Africa Business Council will attend as the event's guest of honour, as confirmed by Council President Anis Jaziri. According to Agence Tunis Afrique Presse, this initiative is part of the Council's strategy to enhance economic connections with Libya and explore new opportunities for Tunisian businesses in southern Libya. Sabha is historically recognized as a trade gateway to sub-Saharan Africa, making it a strategic location for these efforts. The Council views Sabha as a potential link to markets in Niger, Mali, and Chad. The conference is anticipated to highlight projects in various sectors, including infrastructure, energy, agriculture, industry, trade, and logistics, with a focus on developing logistics zones. Tunisian companies stand to benefit by forming partnerships with Libyan firms, utilizing southern Libya's strategic position to boost the fl ow of goods and services towards African markets. Trade between Tunisia and Libya amounted to approximately 2.892 billion dinars in 2025, reflecting an 11% increase from 2024. Tunisian exports to Libya were around 2.469 billion dinars, while overall exports to African countries reached 6.882 billion dinars in 2025, up from 6.406 billion dinars in 2024. The Tunisia-Africa Business Council's participation in the Fezzan Conference is part of a broader series of economic activities it has organized or attended in Libya, especially in Tripoli and Misrata, aimed at bolstering business ties between the two nations.
