Tunisia wants increased cooperation with Senegal, says FM

Stronger relations and a host of regional and international issues were the focus of a talk that Foreign Minister Khemaies Jhinaoui had Thursday with his opposite number Mankeur Ndiaye as he started a two-day official visit to Senegal.

Jhinaoui said Tunisia wants increased cooperation in a wide array of sectors, particularly higher education, health, vocational training and IT.

He also underlined the need to increase trade, especially as Senegal is Tunisia’s first African partner.

Ndiaye said his country is keen to strengthen historical ties as part of a winning partnership and support the efforts made by Tunisia, which was recently granted an observer status in the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), to ink a privileged trade agreement with the 15-strong group.

The two ministers agreed to hold the 9th session of the High Joint Commission in the first half of 2018 and step up the exchange of visits by senior officials.
