Tunisia will welcome on March 23, the 1st cruise coming from Italy with on board over 800 tourists, after a halt recorded since 2019, said Tourism and Handicrafts Minister Mohamed Moez Belhassine in a statement to TAP on Saturday, on the fringes of the inauguration of the 38th Creative Crafts Fair (March 18-27).
The minister announced that 44 cruises are expected in 2022, underlining that this figure will most probably increase in the coming years.
“These cruises are very important for the revival of Tunisian tourism,” he indicated, recalling that in 2010, Tunisia had welcomed 1 million tourists coming in cruises.
Regarding the next tourist season, he pointed out that his department has exerted all the necessary efforts to be prepared at best for this season, reassuring that an important demand has been recorded for Tunisia destination, whether from the European markets or from the neighbouring markets (Libya and Algeria).
A multidisciplinary work has been carried out in order to make of this season a success, focusing on cleanliness and the environment, health protocol and the security of hotel units.
“We have also endeavoured to diversify our tourist products. Actually, in addition, to seaside tourism, Tunisia has become a destination for alternative and sustainable tourism, Saharan tourism, etc.”.
The Minister also recalled that the Dhahar Destination had recently been selected as the best alternative destination worldwide.
Besides, he indicated that efforts have been focused on the promotion and marketing of Tunisia destination through a multitude of channels, notably the digital.
Several campaigns had been launched within this framework, the latest of which is the Touns Lik campaign (Tunisia for you), aimed at the promotion of domestic tourism.
