Tunisia welcomes restoration of diplomatic relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran

Tunisia on Saturday welcomed the restoration of diplomatic relations between Saudi Arabia and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Tunisia commended the role played by the People’s Republic of China in reaching this agreement, expressing wish that this agreement will contribute to reinforcing security and stability in the region, thereby ending tensions and opening a new phase of cooperation between the region’s States, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Saudi Arabia and Iran have reached an agreement to restore diplomatic relations between the two countries and reopen their embassies and consulates in both countries within a maximum of two months, according to a statement issued Friday by the Saudi Press Agency.

The agreement followed a marathon of meetings held in Beijing on March 6-10 between delegations from Saudi Arabia and Iran, led by National Security adviser, Minister of State and member of the Council of Ministers of Saudi Arabia Musaid Al Aiban and secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran Ali Shamkhani.
