Tunisian-Italian project will create 280 jobs by 2018 (Secretary of State for training)

The project launched by the Ministry of Vocational Training and Employment in collaboration with the Italian Co-operation Development provides for the creation of 40 small and medium-sized enterprises in the governorates of Medenine and Tataouine and 280 direct and indirect jobs by 2018, said Secretary of State for Training and Private Initiative Saida Ounissi on Wednesday.

“The project, supported by The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) by means of Euro 1 million 750 thousand, aims to promote private initiative among young people from these two regions, Offering in particular personalized support and necessary funding,” Ounisi pointed out at a meeting held in Djerba to kick off the project.

According to her, Tataouine and Medenine were chosen because the two regions are very affected by unemployment, besides the fact that they have a low capacity to attract investment and private initiative despite their potentialities.

“This project will target 50% of women, with the objective of promoting equal opportunities in investment,” she specified, recalling that since last November her department has launched a national campaign to boost private initiative among women.

On this occasion, Director of UNOPS in Africa Mariacarmen Colitti pointed out that an African team had been assigned to assist the young beneficiaries of this project.

The Representative of the Italian Co-operation Development stressed that the Southern region remains a priority in the Italian co-operation programme, noting that partnership will be further strengthened in order to meet the needs of young people with projects.
