Libya Food Expo, organised March 13-16 in Tripoli, kicked off on Sunday with the participation of about 200 enterprises from several countries including 25 from Tunisia, which are operating in various sectors of the agri-food industry, notably Turkey, France, Portugal, Sri Lanka, etc.
The event is also attended by several national investment support structures including the Sfax Business Centre, the Interprofessional Grouping of Fishing Products (GIPP) and the Sfax Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The Tunisian enterprises’ participation in the economic events held in Libya is part of the national strategic choices aimed at fostering partnership with the Libyan market and conquering together large markets such as the African or European ones, Tunisia’s ambassador in Tripoli Lassaad Laajili stated to TAP.
He said that the experience and skills of Tunisians coupled with Libyan capabilities, ambitions and trade traditions that Libya has with Africa, could create a strong joint economic momentum that would pave the way for the conquest of new promising markets.
Tunisian exhibitors also told TAP that the participation in this kind of events helps improve the Tunisian products’ positioning on the Libyan market and access to new markets represented in this exhibition.
Seafood and fish farming products and canned seafood are among the products displayed at this event and which are in high demand by the Libyans.
Tunisian exhibitors also voiced hope that the positioning of other products will be enhanced on the Libyan market, such as vegetable oils, beverages, dairy products, meat, fresh products, pasta, etc.
In addition to the participation in the exhibition, the Tunisian delegation’s visit to Tripoli also includes meetings with Libyan professional and economic organisations, notably the Tripoli Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, and officials from the ministries in charge of technology, communication, investment and energy to tap into opportunities for partnerships and joint investments, President of the Sfax Chamber of Commerce and Industry Ridha Fourati indicated.
The Tunisian participation in the economic events organised in Libya is aimed at boosting trade between the two countries, which posted in 2021 a 23% rise compared to 2020 from 1.2 billion dinars to 1.5 billion dinars.
