Tunisian-U.S. relations and strategic partnership discussed during Caid Essebsi/Patterson talk

President Beji Caid Essebsi received on Friday at Carthage Palace U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defence for African Affairs Alan Patterson who is currently leading a U.S. delegation during the works of 32nd Joint Military Commission, May 3-4 in Tunis.

The Head of the State reaffirmed the strong Tunisian-U.S. relations and strategic partnership ties between both countries, a Presidency of the Republic press release reads.

Tunisia that chose the path of democracy and economic reform aspires to further boost bilateral co-operation mechanisms so as to promote development and establish peace and stability in the region, Caid Essebsi added.

In turn, Patterson commended the fruitful efforts to counter terrorism and promote peace and stability in Tunisia, and its strategic role in consolidating stability in the region.

The U.S. official further highlighted his country’s willingness to support the pilot Tunisian democratic experience and to help Tunisia overcome its economic and security challenges.
