Tunis: Prime Minister Sarra Zaafrani Zenzri stated on Wednesday that 'Tunisia is today capable, under the leadership of President Kais Saied, of writing a new chapter of success and hope,' adding that 'the year 2026 will mark a real new beginning for a new Tunisia, characterised by progress, development and prosperity.'
According to Agence Tunis Afrique Presse, during a presentation of the Government's Statement at a joint plenary session of the Assembly of People's Representatives and the National Council of Regions and Districts, the Prime Minister emphasized the need to prioritize Tunisia's unity, stability, and sovereign decision-making. She described the efforts undertaken by the State as part of a comprehensive reform approach aimed at achieving social justice and balanced development.
The Prime Minister highlighted that development initiatives would extend beyond major cities to include all regions, especially interior areas needing investment, employment, infrastructure, and public services. The 2026 Finance Bill was portrayed not just as a fiscal document, but as a mechanism to implement a new national vision that addresses growth disparities by equitably distributing wealth and development.
Zaafrani Zenzri stressed the government's determination to combat corruption, economic sabotage, and illicit enrichment, stating that genuine reform must be grounded in transparency, accountability, and respect for the law. She acknowledged existing challenges but expressed confidence in overcoming them through resolve and continued reform efforts to meet public expectations.
She presented the 2026 State Budget and Finance Law as part of a strategic vision balancing social justice with equitable development, contributing to a new phase of growth based on autonomy and national priorities. This vision also aims to reinforce social and economic stability, free from external influences.
Regarding Tunisia's international status, efforts are underway to enhance diplomatic representation and digitalize consular services to support Tunisians abroad and facilitate market access for economic operators. The "E-Consulate" project is in progress, aiming to digitalize administrative procedures and improve service quality for Tunisians abroad.
In 2025, the government has focused on enhancing municipal capacities to improve service quality and stimulate investment. Upcoming priorities for 2026 include adopting the organic law on municipal councils and completing the territorial planning and urban development code.
The State will also restructure public establishments facing financial and structural difficulties to improve performance, ease public finance pressure, and optimize resources. Reducing the number of public entities with overlapping functions is deemed necessary to protect public funds and improve service delivery efficiency.
