Tunisia’s Sahel region (Monastir, Sousse, Mahdia) reported the highest rate of violent incidents (34.6%) in September 2021, followed by the midland region (Kairouan, Sidi Bouzid, Gafsa, Kasserine) with 26%, and the capital (Tunis, Ben Arous, Ariana, Manouba) with over 15%, according to the monthly report on the violence phenomenon, released by the Tunisian Forum for Economic and Social Rights (FTDES).
The governorate of Monastir tops the list with a violence rate of more than 23% recorded in September, followed by the governorate of Sidi Bouzid and Gafsa (11.5%) and the governorate of Sousse (7%).
Women are the first victims of violence with over 46%, followed by men (27%) of all victims, according to the same report.
The FTDS said that the violence cases reported last September included criminal violence (80%), institutional violence (15.4%) and economic violence (3.8%).
