The streets of Tunisia were flooded Sunday evening by a jubilant population after the announcement of President of the Republic Kaïs Saïed to freeze the activities of the Parliament, lift the immunity of all MPs, dismiss the Prime Minister and preside over the Public Prosecution.
Despite the curfew still in force due to the coronavirus pandemic, a large number of Tunisians took to the streets to express their support for President Saïed’s decisions by sounding their horns, yelling and shouting their joy.
In Tunis, a festive air prevailed on the emblematic Avenue Habib Bourguiba as seen on videos posted on social networks.
A large crowd of men, women, young and old celebrated the announcement of the President of the Republic.
Celebrations that followed the protest movements observed in all regions of the country on July 25, calling for the dissolution of the Parliament and the departure of Hichem Mechichi’s government.
