Turnout halves in municipal polls compared to 2014 legislative elections, says Mourakiboun

Voter turnout in May 6 municipal elections is half the one in the 2014 legislative elections, Mourabikoun said.

General Co-ordinator of the election observation network Rafik Halouani Monday told a news conference “the turnout stood at 35% at the closing of most polling stations and centres, while the lowest rate was recorded in the constituency of Tunis (26%).” ?

The municipal vote was held under good conditions in general, Halouani said. Yet, some irregularities and logistical gaps were reported which, nonetheless, do not call the vote into question.

These electoral malpractices by party, independent and coalition lists notably consist in the violation of election silence and attempts to influence voters.
